All Volunteer Unit

Welcome

The USWP Mounted Patrol Detail has established itself as an undeniable asset to the community's we serve. The Unit is an invaluable tool in Homeland Security support and Public Safety. Homeland Security threats are not just on the water and to be effective we must use all possible resources to provide the best support

This is where the Mounted Patrol Unit comes in. We cannot only be effective on the water but on land as well

Mounted Patrol Members are effective in the patrol capacity; and they are effective and efficient in public assistance.

The unit will handle regular patrol assignments throughout Metro Louisville, However the unit will assist anywhere in the U.S. as needed and supports special initiatives that call for a mounted patrol.

The Mounted Patrol will been used for a variety of community  functions including Homeland Security Patrols and the location of lost children and other individuals. Body searches, The unit will also assist other agencies and municipalities upon request.

The mounted patrol  is a specialty within search & rescue, also using horses for transportation and to search for missing persons mounted patrol  responders on horseback are primarily a patrol resource, but also can provide off-road logistics support and transportation. Mounted patrol responders can in some terrain move faster on the ground than humans on foot, and can transport more equipment, and may be physically less exhausted than responder's performing the same task on foot. Mounted patrol responders typically have longer initial response times than groundpounder SAR resources, due to the time required to pick up trailer, horse(s), and perhaps also water, feed, and equipment.

The mounted patrol on horseback will have an important place in assisting law enforcement, and other agencies; as needed, also the mounted patrol can access areas where traditional police and other vehicles cannot due to space limitations and or congestion.

The south west District along the Ohio River, Rubber town, River Port, and Salt River are the primary focus of the Mounted Patrol Detail.
