Resurve Mounted Patrol members who use
thier own horses is required to have the same training as active members This includes learning patrol skills, first
aid, CPR and wilderness survival as well as navigation skills, volunteer members of the mounted patrol team must
also train their horses to do a variety of tasks.
* The horses must be able to lead another horse, go through water
and over or around other obstacles back trails.
* Horses must withstand loud noises, such as Automobile engines, gunshots
and horns.
* Horses
must also learn not to shy at all-terrain vehicles, helicopters, fire trucks or ambulances.
* Horses must be able and willing to go out at
night and also be able to stay out all night while tied to a tree or picket line.
Horses must be able to carry up too at least 30 pounds of equipment each member
of the mounted patrol team must carry. This includes a change of clothes, food for the member and horses, water, first
aid kit and the means to make a shelter.
Before
being allowed to participate as a mounted patrol team member, horses and members will be trained and tested, that
includes a variety of tests.
The
U.S.W.P.M.P. Unit meets and holds training sessions every other month or as needed.
